DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Produces wooden carved signs and designs signs using computer software. Uses all wood working tools including table saw, jointer, planer, hand routers, drills, band saw, computerized router, and various hand tools. Makes frames and brochure boxes for use on Department areas. Paints and stains signs using a sprayer. Hand-letters when finishing signs. Uses various tools to make metal rods to attach sign planks together including power hack saw and metal lathe to cut threads. Repairs and maintains shop equipment and computerized router. Produces silk screened, plastic, and masonite signs. Paints and uses solvents. Interacts with other agencies in making signs throughout the state, including DNR, Forest Service, Park Service, Corps of Engineers, and others. Uses computer software to design signs and plotter to cut vinyl. Uses computer software to design and make door plates, name tags, and various other plastic signs. Performs other duties as required.
Graduation from high school or G.E.D./HiSET equivalent and three years of experience in sign production or carpentry work, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Have basic computer knowledge.
Obtain a valid Driver License.
Occasionally work weekends.
Lift and/or carry 50 pounds.
Work occasionally out-of-doors in hot and cold temperatures.
Maintain an effective working relationship with other Department employees and the general public.
Express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Operate various types of hand tools and perform minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs.
Perform minor repairs on buildings.
Keep accurate records of supplies and services.
Make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position has been determined to be nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time off in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department’s Compensatory Time Off and Overtime policy.
Smoking is prohibited in all owned, rented or leased Department of Conservation offices, buildings, and similar facilities, in Department aircraft, and in vehicles.
The Department of Conservation will hire only United States citizens and aliens authorized to work in the United States. All new employees will be required to complete an “Employment Eligibility Verification” (Form I-9) and produce requested documentation after employment.
Candidates seeking initial employment must submit to a drug screen following offer of employment.
All persons employed with the state of Missouri shall file all state income tax forms and pay all state income taxes owed.
