Probation & Parole Officer I-II – Department of Corrections

Probation & Parole Officer I Annual Salary: $33,277.20
Probation & Parole Officer II Annual Salary: $38,752.80

What you’ll do:

  • Investigates offender’s home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Board of Probation and Parole; collects/verifies/evaluates data; incorporates into reports and records; assesses needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies to ensure effective offender management/public safety; and submits reports thereof to designated legal authorities
  • Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment or confinement and counsels them regarding personal/adjustment problems; attends court to receive court assignments/make reports
  • Assists in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders; cooperates with public /private agencies and law enforcement agencies; investigates offender violations; takes appropriate action including issuance of a warrants
  • Prepares statistical reports of activities; administers/observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing; assists in special investigations/research projects/other activities; serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community; performs other related work as assigned; as employee becomes more experienced/demonstrates proficiency, levels of supervision become more general

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
  • Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and the ability to re-qualify annualy.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications:

Probation and Parole Officer I:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

(Work experience as a Probation and Parole Assistant or Corrections Classification Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System, or work experience in substance abuse counseling or juvenile or social case management may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required education.)

  • Special Requirements: Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and the ability to re-qualify annually.

Probation and Parole Officer II:

  • One or more years of experience as a Probation and Parole Officer I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency, and a valid vehicle operator’s license. OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; AND
  • One or more years of professional experience in probation and parole or corrections casework; and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

(24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related area may substitute for the required experience.)

(Work experience as a Probation and Parole Assistant or Corrections Classification Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System, or work experience in substance abuse counseling or juvenile or social case management may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required education.)
