Under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist, assists in the delivery of occupational therapy services in compliance with federal regulations and rules promulgated by the Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy. Provides advisory service to other interdisciplinary team members to promote quality patient care. Functions under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Assists the Occupational Therapist with patient evaluation including the following:
1.1 Contribute to the screening and/or evaluation process by gathering data, administering standardized tests and reporting observations. Interpretation of evaluation results is completed by the supervising Occupational Therapist. The Plan of Care (POC) is developed by collaborating with the supervising Occupational Therapist.Provides Treatment to include the following components:
2.1 Carries out patient treatment as established by the POC.
2.2 Progresses the patient appropriately with established POC.
2.3 Refers the patient back to the Occupational Therapist appropriately and in a timely manner for re-evaluation when goals are met, orders are about to expire or to determine how progress is occurring.
2.4 Interventions to meet Functional, Psychological, Cultural, Educational and Spiritual needs
2.5 Self care / Home Management training and Community / Work Reintegration Training
2.6 Therapy interventions may include but not limited to therapeutic procedures, neuromuscular reeducation, therapeutic activities, wheelchair management, orthotic management, prosthetic management, development of cognitive skills, sensory integrative techniques
2.7 Therapeutic modalities which may include but not limited to electrical stimulation, hot/cold packs, paraffin
2.8 Demonstrates effective interdisciplinary collaboration and documentation of said collaboration

Discharge Planning
3.1 Education provided to Patient/Significant Other/Caregiver to include but not limited to Home Program, Equipment and Instruction in the use of Equipment
3.2 Collaborates with the supervising Occupational Therapist to recommend any Follow-up Care, if any, which may include Home Program, Home Health Care, Skilled Nursing, Inpatient Rehabilitation, or Outpatient Therapy

4.1 Completes all documentation in a timely and thorough manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines

Productivity – supports and implements budgetary practices in the planning, organization and efficient execution of work activities
5.1 Meets established departmental productivity standards, conserves resources and recognizes the value of cost containment while maintaining quality standards

Customer Satisfaction
6.1 Consistently utilizes Mercy Service techniques in establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with all internal and external customers including co-workers as demonstrated by communication that is effective, helpful and appropriate in manner

Professional Development – demonstrates a commitment to excellence by advancing one’s knowledge base through departmental and non-departmental venues
7.1 Assumes responsibility and accountability for level of work and adherence to competency standards, pursues opportunities for educational advancement and meets departmental continuing education requirements including the provision of inservices for co-workers
7.2 Provides effective supervision for students during clinical rotations
7.3 Process Improvement (PI)/Outcomes – demonstrates clinical skills and a commitment toward improvement and monitoring activities which result in enhanced patient outcomes and compliance with regulatory bodies

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school for occupational therapy assistant.
Licensure: Must hold current licensure in the State of Missouri.
Experience: None required.
Certifications: Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within their probation period.
Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Demonstrated skills in the practical application of therapeutic procedures. Good interpersonal skills. Physical demands are attached plus push at 30lbs., pull 40lbs., and grip up to 40 lbs., pinch up to 10 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally. Equipment Used: Office equipment. Must demonstrate competency in equipment used for the delivery of modalities and therapeutic interventions for patients. Additional skills and knowledge: be able to push 40 lbs, pull 60 lbs, grip 50 lbs and pinch 15lbs.
